Valerie Dawn Shumate, 51, of Montesano, went home to be with her loving Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 4, 2013, following complications during a recent surgery in Seattle. She was born June 15, 1962, in Longview, Washington, to parents Delmont and June Phelps Baker. Her grandparents were Zedekiah and Grace Baker, and Hanson and Velma Phelps.
Valerie is survived by loving husband, Rocky Shumate of Montesano; son, Alex (23) of Olympia; daughter, Caitlin (20) of Montesano; mother, June Baker; sisters, Veronica Baker of Olympia, Vicki Meyer of Oakville, Debbie Lorber; and brother, Shannon Baker of Centralia. She is also survived by loving in-laws, Floyd and Mildred Shumate of Montesano, Leroy and Rochelle Shumate of Satsop, Sherri and Juan Harvey of Montesano, Scott and Tonia Shumate of Satsop, Mike Shumate of Montesano, Keith and Julie Shumate of Chehalis, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Alex’s dad, Benjamin Rueda of Mexico.
