Vincent K. Shaudys, a longtime South Bend resident died on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen. He was 85. Vincent was born October 2, 1927, in Newtown, Pennsylvania to Vincent and Anna (Kirkbride) Shaudys.
Vince was a birthright Quaker, and member of the Bucks County Makefield Monthly Meeting, at Newtown. He attended public schools in Newtown, Yardley and was a graduate of George School, a Quaker Prep School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, and graduated from Duke University with a major in History. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Geography from Ohio State University in 1956. While attending Ohio State he met his future wife, Jean Hazeltine, of South Bend, Wash. They were married in the South Bend Methodist Church in September of 1956.
