Astrid “Stella” Lamoreaux passed away at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Washington on May 28, 2013, at the age of 80.
Astrid, who was known as Stella by her friends and family in Grays Harbor, was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado on August 13, 1932, to Scandinavian immigrants, Arvid and Agnes (Lovlund) Strand. She moved with her parents to Battle Ground, Wash., when she was young. She graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1950, and then studied nursing. She completed her nursing education at Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1971. She worked as an RN at Grays Harbor Community Hospital and Grays Harbor County Health Department. She was dedicated to her profession and respected by her peers. Near the end of her career, she was awarded the prestigious Duncan Award from Seattle Children’s Hospital for her outreach work with children in our community.
