Evalyn D. Roye, 92, passed away on January 9, 2013, at Life Care Center of Port Orchard after a brief illness. She was born in Aberdeen on February 12, 1920, and was a lifetime resident of Grays Harbor. Evalyn was preceded in death by her love and soul mate, Andrew P. Roye, Jr.; her son, Gordon Acker of Port Orchard; her stepson, Ronald A. Roye of Aurora, Colorado; and a granddaughter, LeeAnn Putman. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Kathi Hack of Santa Rosa, California; her daughters-in-law, Mary Anne Acker of Port Orchard and Glenda Roye of Aurora, Colorado; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Evalyn worked as a sales clerk and department manager at Pearson’s clothing store until its closure. She was an active YMCA member and taught water aerobics classes for many years after learning to swim and earning her lifesaving certification at age 60. Evalyn was also very active in the Aberdeen Elks Club #593 and was selected Lady Elk of the Year for 1993-94. She was an avid reader and had a passion for the outdoors and the beach loving to walk, fish, clam dig, and crab. Her love of sand and sun also took her yearly to Hawaii.
