Nadine “Chickie” Otremba, 82, former resident, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Nadine “Chickie” Otremba was born on November 19, 1930, in Raymond, Washington, to Robert and Wealthy “Sophie” (Schultze) Horton. As a young woman, Chickie, rode and raced motorcycles and was the first woman to be allowed to race against men in Washington and she won her first race. She lived in the North End of Hoquiam and loved her friends. Later in life she worked as a clerk for the Oriole Café and then as a grocery checker for Safeway’s for many years, moving to Olympia she worked for the first convenience store gas station at Texaco until retiring.
