Blake died at home, surrounded by his family on November 13, 2012. He was born to Ruth T. Stines Huttula and Richard E. Huttula on June 11, 1922, in Aberdeen, Washington. Blake was raised in Elma, Washington and graduated from Elma High School in 1940. He graduated as a Registered Pharmacist, from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1947, after serving his country in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Blake met Elizabeth (Liz) Rose Auer in Seattle in 1940. At the time, Liz was attending the Seattle University, School of Nursing. Liz and Blake married at the University Lutheran Church in Seattle on June 10, 1945. After the birth of their first child, Carl R. Huttula on August 18, 1947, they moved to Olympia, Wash. where Blake worked as a staff Pharmacist at the Gillette and Guffey Pharmacy. In the winter of 1949, Blake purchased the Elma Pharmacy from Roy Davidson and made Elma their permanent home. In 1971, Blake moved the Elma Pharmacy to its current location where he proudly worked until he retired in 1997, after 50 years. Most of Blake’s children and many grandchildren have worked beside him in his business throughout the years, providing each of them with a strong sense of responsibility and solid work ethic. His dream of keeping his business “in the family” was realized in 1988, when he sold the business to his youngest child Tom. At the time of his death, he delighted in the fact that he had grandchildren in college, currently pursuing the practice of pharmacy.
