Marilyn Croker, 89, died July 30, 2015 with her family at her bedside in Bellevue, Wash. She was born in Lansing, Mich. to Jack and Velva Neva. In 1993 they migrated from the wheat fields of North Dakota to the Pacific Northwest. They settled in Aberdeen, Wash., where she attended St. Mary’s School. In 1940 the family moved to Centralia. She married Stanley Patnode in 1945. They had three children together. Stanley was in a terrible accident and had both of his legs crushed. Marilyn nursed him back to health for many years. People were astounded at the “Florence Nightingale” she became. Yet their luck was not to hold, after all the pain and hard work the two of them went through, Stanley developed cancer and died Aug. 14, 1971.
