Lucille Rosemary Sajec, age 88, passed away October 19, 2012, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, surrounded by her family. She was born August 3, 1924, in Duluth, Minnesota to Michael and Josephine (Richey) Walsh.
After finishing high school at Morgan Park High School in Duluth, she attended Superior, Wisconsin Vocational School and was certified in flat, vertical, and overhead arc welding. She was one of the first eight women hired at Schaffer Shipyard in Duluth during the war. She then moved with her brother, Richard, to Long Beach, California to be near her twin sister. While in California she worked as a certified Naval Welder at Consolidated Steel Shipyards and later moved back to Superior, Wisconsin where she worked at Butler Brothers Shipyard until the war ended. On October 27, 1945, she married Louis Sajec. They moved to Washington State in 1951, first living in Auburn and then Hoquiam.
