Janet Marie Reid Anderson died Feb. 8, 2015, in Port Orchard, Wash., after a strong battle with pancreatic cancer. Janet was born on Nov. 2, 1934 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Harold (Had) Reid and Marie Schafer Reid. She graduated from St. Mary’s School and from Aberdeen High School. Her maternal great-grandparents, John and Anna Schafer, settled in 1871 along the Satsop River in what later became Grays Harbor County. Her maternal grandfather, Peter Schafer, along with his brothers, established Schafer Bros. Logging and Lumber Company, which at its peak was one of the largest forest product companies in the Northwest. Janet’s paternal grandfather, George B. Reid, was a prominent architect in the Grays Harbor area in the early 1900s. He designed the old Aberdeen City Hall and Library, St. Mary’s Church, the Aberdeen Mansion and many other homes and commercial buildings. Her father, Harold (Had) Reid owned the Aberdeen Lumber Company and was the Richfield Oil distributor for Grays Harbor.
